Writing Expository Essays Can Be Interesting and Challenging
The expository essay is the essay that gives some instructions, describes how to do something, and explains some ideas or notions with facts. These kinds of essays have a definite structure and principles of writing.
Thus, it is necessary to choose the topic for your essay. It should be narrow enough to fit your expository essay. In addition, it should not be too narrow (you should have something to talk about).
The expository essay should represent the thesis statement. This statement or sentence is the major idea of the expository essay. It lets the readers know about the author’s opinion and leaves some space for further discussion.
The expository essay is the ideas, instructions or arguments represented in a specific form. The form of the expository essay can vary from definition to the classification according to the relevance and importance. The expository essay can contain some information related through cause-and-effect relation or consist of examples only. The expository essay can be the analysis of some process or phenomenon taking into consideration a certain aspect.
The structure of the expository essay should look like this:
- Introduction. General notions. Further divisions of the body of the expository essay. Thesis statement (narrow enough to discuss it later). Thought-provoking idea. A question to gain the interest of the reader.
- Body.
- Major division with a topic sentence for each paragraph.

- Secondary support.

- Secondary support.
- Secondary support.
- Major division with a topic sentence for each paragraph.
- Conclusion. Thesis statement. Divisions of the body. Do not leave space for further discussions. The conclusion should summarize previous information.
The expository essay is the clear explanation or the instruction for some actions. The understandable language and strict structure are preferable.
