English Papers: Deal with Them Knowing the Demands of Each Type
During the graduate academic activity in English, writing different kinds of English papers is a requirement for the successful completion of the course.
Confusion can arise on students in dealing with them. This is because they are unaware of the demands that the different types of English papers place on the student.
Guidelines for understanding the demands of the different types of English papers
These guidelines provide awareness of the requirements for different types of English papers.
- Four assignment types commonly make up an English paper. These four types are close readings, class presentation, research papers, and book reviews.
- The normal length of a close reading English paper is four to five pages. It is based on a short poem, or a short work in prose, or a part of a big poem. The assignment seldom requires the support of outside references for opinions expressed by the students.
- The class presentation type of English paper is again a short assignment not exceeding eight pages, which is usually based on a text that is used in the course study. Any interesting aspect of the text becomes the focus of the presentation, with a few sources used to support opinions expressed.
- The research paper type of English paper is a much linger piece writing activity extending up to 25 pages. The objective of the research paper is to come up with something new in the given area of study.
- Book reviews are the final type of English paper. It is a short writing activity, whose length can vary from two to four pages. This is a critical thinking activity, which requires wide secondary reading.
The awareness provided by these guidelines will assist in understanding the demands of English papers.
